History of Lingfield

Lingfield is a village and civil parish in Surrey, England, located 23 miles south of London. The village was once an Anglo-Saxon administrative division and was not listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. The southern part of the parish is in the old iron district, with a forge and furnace owned by Lady Gage in 1574. Lingfield has become a small town since the opening of a railway station in 1884 and the creation of the Lingfield Park racecourse.
